Beautiful voices, with a blast of brass

Sunshine Community Brass Band (pictured above) will team up with Ballarat Memorial Concert Band and the Marian College gospel choir for a special concert later this month. Songs That Warm Your Heart will be at St Bernadette’s Community Centre in Sunshine North on Saturday, July 25, 7pm-10pm, with prizes to be won. A leg-up to fitness

Residents can get fit with companions and peer encouragement through Be Active Brimbank. Check out the new activities and timetables at Sunshine and St Albans leisure centres; 88 classes are available to suit all ages, interests and fitness levels. Workout options include group fitness in classes such as Body Pump and Body Balance, and freestyle training in sessions the likes of Zumba and boxing circuit. Apply for a seven-day guest trial pass.

Battle of the bottle, on stage

The new production from the Sunshine Community Theatre, Ruben Guthrie, is the story of a man battling not only the bottle but the city that won’t let him put it down. It’s soon to be released as a film starring Abbey Lee and Alex Dimitriades, but theatre lovers shouldn’t miss this show.
Its first performance is from 8pm, Thursday, July 23, at Dempster Park Hall, Sunshine. The season runs until August 8. Tickets: $20

Get out, go green

Brimbank green thumbs are urged to come to Sydenham Park for an all-ages National Tree Day on Sunday, July 26, from 10am to 3pm. The goal is to plant 1500 trees and check and maintain the 3000 trees planted last year. Participants can enjoy a barbecue by the Rotary Club of Brimbank Central and meet bush babies including a wombat, wallaby and ringtail possum.

Doing business well

Brimbank will host two events for the Small Business Festival Victoria. There will be a Starting Your Business forum on August 5 from 6pm to 9.30pm in Keilor for $30, and a business networking event at council’s Keilor offices on August 19 from 6pm to 8pm, for the cost of $20.
