Forty years ago

May 28, 1975

Sunshine’s town clerk, Mr Bill Deutschmann, has lashed Labor councillors over their allegations that he has made “substantial bookkeeping errors”. Mr Deutschmann said his calculation of Sunshine’s deficit of $1.68 million was correct. “In fact the deficit is closer to $1.72 million than $1.68 million,” Mr Deutshmann said.


Thirty years ago

May 29, 1985

People in the Sunshine area will be forced to travel to Essendon Hospital for public maternity ward facilities, the Shadow Health Minister, Mark Birrell said yesterday. He said this was part of the Cain government’s plan to relocate Prince Henry’s Hospital to Sunshine. A recent government report on the effect of relocating Prince Henry’s Hospital from the city confirmed this major shock for the people of Sunshine,” Mr Birrell said.


Twenty years ago

May 31, 1995

Tottenham’s landmark and one of the west’s largest vacant industrial properties, the RAAF’s store depot, has been sold for more than $8 million. At what is generally considered the gateway between Footscray and Sunshine, the stores depot was sold to local private investors last week.


Ten years ago

May 31, 2005

Caroline Springs was the big winner from the proposed Melton council budget, with $3 million earmarked for the Caroline Springs indoor stadium and $1.5 million going to construction of the library and civic centre. The council also promised $1.3 million for the construction of the Banchory Grove community hall in Hillside.
