March 5, 1975

The Country Roads Board hasn’t the $1 million needed to build the Kororoit Creek bridge. Sunshine Council has been told that it will be at least five years before the money is available. But the council is determined to fight for an early completion of the Wright Street, West Sunshine, bridge that would prevent traffic chaos currently disrupting the area. And the council intends to stop the chaos long before the five years is up.

March 6, 1985

Mystery surrounds a series of cat killings in St Albans. Up to 50 pet cats have been found dead and buried in gory, horror movie-style in the front gardens of suburban homes in an area next to the site of Sunshine Hospital. The deaths have occurred in the past seven months. Residents in Boroda Court, St Albans, have been hit hardest, with some people finding as many as nine cats buried in their gardens since last July.

March 8, 1995

It will have more screens than any other cinemas in Australia when Woolworths builds a 16-screen ‘megaplex’ cinema on the Sunshine Harvester site in Hampshire Road. Village Roadshow will operate the cinemas. The Sunshine megaplex’s closest rival in term of size will be the soon-to-be-completed Geelong cinema complex,
with 11 screens. They will be eclipsed by Hoyts Highpoint when it expands to 12 screens.

Brimbank council is fighting back against large-scale drug and alcohol use in the region. The burgeoning problem has forced the council and Family Drug Help to establish a support group for family and friends of alcohol and drug users. A panel of 13 speakers from drug and family support services joined police for two public forums last Tuesday to launch the family-based initiative.
