Sunshine Football Club faces possible suspension from the Victorian Football Association because its home ground is not up to standard. Club president Jim White has accused Sunshine council of a “complete lack of programming” in relation to Skinner Reserve. He claimed the council’s delay in ploughing and re-seeding the reserve had forced the club off the ground, and it would have to find alternative training facilities.

A battle over the use of land behind Sunshine library is far from over, says a group of residents whose children play there. The children, some of them teenagers, have been told by Sunshine council’s by-laws department that ball games on the land are prohibited. But the children and their parents are defying by-laws officers, who have shooed them off the triangle of land several times in the past two weeks.

Brimbank council will amalgamate the Keilor and Sunshine Harvester festivals and the two local Senior Citizens’ Week programs into one continuous event this year. Last Tuesday, the Brimbank commissioners, meeting in Keilor, voted to create a Brimbank Autumn Festival season, in March and April. March 19-26 will be Senior Citizens’ Week and will be followed by the Keilor Festival (March 26) and the Sunshine Harvester Festival (April 8).

A Sunshine boy with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder was assaulted while playing in his front yard by a man in a wheelchair. Robbie Cornish, 11, said he was punched in the left eye and knocked to the ground by the man. Robbie’s mother, Suzanne, said the incident happened between 8am and 8.30am on Wednesday, January 12. Ms Cornish said Robbie attended Jackson Special School in
St Albans because he also suffered from a major anxiety disorder and social phobia.
