WRFL young guns to take on Ballarat’s best

The Western Region Football League’s young guns are set to take to the field in a representative game for the first time since 2011.

The top under-19 prospects from the WRFL will play against the Ballarat Football League in a curtain-raiser to a senior match at the AFL Victoria Community Championships at the Whitten Oval in May.

It will be the first time an under-19 (formerly under-18s) side has represented the WRFL in five years.

WRFL general manager David Newton said it was a great opportunity for the best youngsters from the west to experience a higher level of competition.

“It is something we very much look forward to being a part of,” he said.

“We have some exciting and talented young players in our competition, so this is chance for them to showcase their skills and put on a good show.

“It is always an honour to wear the WRFL jumper and I am sure the youngsters of our competition will look forward to representing the league.

“It is also a great opportunity for our players to play on Whitten Oval.”
