Kevin Hillier: In the Doghouse

■ Former world boxing champion Barry Michael is holding a big fight night at the Melbourne Pavilion in Flemington on Friday, February 26. The main bout features local boy Zac ‘Dynamo’ Dunn, a former St Kevin’s student, who took up boxing to get fitter for footy but decided to embark on a boxing career. He had 170 amateur fights and since turning professional has won all his 19 bouts. Now he fights Rogerio Damasco in the night’s main bout.

Michael is excited by Dunn and says he’s only a couple of fights away from a big purse. Tickets available at 0410506435 or visit Barry Michael Boxing on Facebook. The card will screen live on Channel 31.

■ There have been some interesting moves at Werribee Park Golf Club. At a special meeting last month, Peter Haberecht was elected as a new director, the $150 bar levy was withdrawn and the affiliation fees to Golf Victoria increased to $65.

Seven-day membership is now $1305 a year, which still makes Werribee Park one of the best-value 18-hole courses in the west. In other news, Ross Smith has resigned from the board.

■ The Hoppers Crossing Junior Netball Association, which has been around since 1972, recently opened its new facilities at Mossfiel Reserve. The club is looking for players and teams for its Saturday morning junior competitions in U9, U11, U13, U15, U17 and Open (U21). It also runs an excellent Net Set Go program for kids from 5-10, which is an introduction to the basic skills such as catching, passing and footwork.

The club is also looking for teams for the Thursday Twilight comp starting next week. Contact the registrar, Lisa Caithness, on 0413012376 or email lisa.caithness60@hotmail.com

■ Sad to hear of the passing last week of Graeme Bugge, who was well known in local cricket circles after umpiring at District level for many years. Graeme was a life member and former president, secretary and committee man of the Victorian Cricket Association Umpires and Scorers. He was also a life member of Footscray Edgewater Cricket Club and served there in a number of positions.

I remember Graeme as a great bloke from my time playing with his son, David, at Hoppers Crossing. My condolences to Sue and the entire Bugge family, including his 12 grandchildren. He’ll be missed.dO
