There will be no more information sessions before Places Victoria resubmits its master plan for a controversial residential and commercial development in Cairnlea.
Star Weekly revealed last year that Places Victoria had reworked its original master plan for the 38-hectare site next to Cairnlea Drive, after community outrage to what residents conceived as a heavy industrial use.
“We listened when residents told us they were concerned about commercial development and significantly changed the proposed master plan, with commercial development now confined to the southern part of the site along Ballarat Road,” a PV spokesman said.
PLACES VICTORIA: CAIRNLEA FUTURE DEVELOPMENT
“Our plan will see about two-thirds of the site zoned residential, with a small commercial area.
“The revised master plan includes improved landscape reserves and makes provision for about 750 new trees to be planted on the site.”
The master plan is expected to be resubmitted soon.
North West Metropolitan MP Khalil Eideh told Parliament the development would “break the promises made to families when they camped out for days to secure a block” when Cairnlea was first subdivided.
Planning Minister Richard Wynne said the land is still owned by the Commonwealth and cannot be zoned yet.
