Fourth shooting victim in four days

A 23-year-old Caroline Springs man was admitted to hospital with gunshot wounds to his hand early Monday morning after being shot in Kealba – the fourth shooting incident in the north west suburbs in as many days.

Sunshine Police Inspector Dave Byrt said the man was admitted to Sunshine hospital about 5.40am and is in a stable condition.

“We’re working on one theory that he was shot within the Brimbank area, but it was definitely within the north west suburbs,”  Inspector  Byrt said.

In a separate incident, a 25-year-old Seabrook man was also admitted to Sunshine hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg about 8pm Sunday.

Inspector Byrt said the victim, a motorcycle gang member, was turned away by Werribee Mercy hospital and then went to Sunshine.

The man has been charged with trafficking and possession of ammunition.

He will face the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court for a remand hearing.

Police believe the two shooting incidents are unrelated.

They follow the arrest of two men in relation to a shooting in Kings Park on Sunday afternoon. A man in his 20s was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds to his leg at a house in Shepherd’s Grove about 3pm.

Leading Senior Constable Paul Turner said a man in his 50s was arrested at the scene. He said another man, believed to be in his 20s, was later arrested and was assisting police with their inquiries.

On Friday night, a quiet street in Kurunjang was rocked by a shooting that left a 20-year-old man fighting for life.
