Prized guitars stolen from Albion station carpark

The safety around Albion railway station has been called into question again following the theft of two prized guitars.

A pristine, vintage bass guitar, valued at $600, and an electric guitar were stolen after thieves smashed their way into a car parked near the station last Thursday night.

The bass guitar was a birthday gift for the husband of Albion resident Alejandra Santander.

“My plan was to surprise him at midnight on Friday,” she said.

“A friend (Armadizzle) picked up the guitar for me and when he parked his car … next to Albion station, somebody decided to take it.

“His car was broken into and the brand new bass, never even opened, was stolen along with his electric guitar.”

The theft follows Star Weekly’s report of 17 cars being broken into at the station in a two- day period in August.

‘Matter of urgency’

Western Metropolitan MP Bernie Finn last month took the story to Parliament, calling on the government to upgrade Albion station as “a matter of urgency”.

“It’s clear that there is a major crime problem in terms of the vehicles that are parked at the Albion station carpark,” he said.

A state government spokesman said Public Transport Victoria had no immediate plans to upgrade Albion station but would provide additional protective services officers.

As well, 62 transit police officers would form a roving force to patrol all train lines as part of a 24-hour public transport trial starting next year.
