City West Falcons opened the 2014 Victorian Netball League season with a comprehensive 52-34 win over western rivals VU-Western Lightning at the State Netball and Hockey Centre last night.
The Falcons burst out of the blocks to lead by eight at quarter time and managed to keep hold of the advantage for the rest of the night.
Alice Teague-Neeld got her first championship start in place of the injured Kath Knott (hamstring) and produced a stunning performance at goal shooter with 27-from-28 for a 97% return.
Goal attack Julia Knott formed a lethal attacking combo to finish with 25-from-27 (93%).
Casey Price was one of the stand-outs for the Falcons at goal defence.
The Lightning were under strength without the experienced Amelia Hills in the mid-court and are still trying to integrate new-look front line.
