Police working overnight in Dandenong did not expect a pursuit to end quite the way it did – with a newborn baby.
Officers were driving along Stud Road, Dandenong, about 1.45am on Wednesday when they activated their lights and sirens to randomly check a passing car.
When the driver failed to stop, police took off , but police were baffled when they noticed the car was not speeding or disobeying road rules.
The driver then pulled up at the entrance of the Dandenong Hospital, popped open the car door and surprised the officers with a newborn baby, born just seconds before the driver had stopped.
Instead of arresting him, police ran into the hospital to alert staff about the situation, who immediately came out to attend to the mother and child.
Police then congratulated the father on the baby’s arrival, and decided that no action should be taken against him for failing to stop.
