Blasted by the last of the heatwave and undeterred by the winds, revellers hit the foreshore to enjoy the annual St Kilda Festival, taking in acts such as The Bamboos, Art vs. Science and Alison Wonderland.
Although the festival’s viability has been challenged in recent years, it still drew more than 300,000 people, as a cool wind swept through the streets just after noon.
Festival-goers enjoyed sets from more than 150 artists on 50 stages, as well as roaming acts such as giant teddy bears on stilts.
Jo Bowley, who was attending the festival again after five years, said it was a great Melbourne event.
Families and children gathered in the Catani Gardens, where a children’s area was set up overlooking the water.
Friends Mitch and Marcia Batterham, Renee Bailey and Paul and Laura Lewis were a little disappointed that it ”was nothing like in the past”. ”Maybe it was because we were younger, but it was more relaxed,” Ms Bailey said.
