STATE: Paramedics offered 12% pay rise

Premier Denis Napthine has moved to end the standoff with the state’s paramedics over pay and conditions by detailing a new pay offer in parliament.

Dr Napthine used question time on Thursday to announce his government was offering paramedics an immediate six per cent pay rise as well as a $1500 sign on bonus.

The Premier said the pay offer was fair and reasonable.

He said there were three key elements:

* An immediate 6 per cent pay rise, a further 3 per cent in 2015, and another 3 per cent in 2016

* A $1500 sign on bonus for every paramedic

* An agreement to seek arbitration on any matters that remain outstanding next March.

“The government firmly believes that this a fair offer for our ambulance officers,” Dr Napthine said.
