A group of residents has objected to a $180,000 Brimbank council plan to slow hoons by building a roundabout at a Taylors Lakes intersection.
A resident who lives on the corner of Lady Nelson Way and Lipton Street, where a roundabout is planned, has presented a 22-signature petition to council asking for the plan to be canned.
“It’s a waste of ratepayers’ money,” said the resident, who did not want to be named. “It won’t prevent cars from speeding. There’s too much distance between this roundabout and the next.”

A council survey found speeding was a problem along Lady Nelson Way, between Copernicus Way and the western end of Proctor Crescent. On Lady Nelson Way, the limit is 50km/h.
“This length of road has no traffic-calming devices and motorists are driving well above the limit,” the survey report stated.
Many drivers recorded 60km/h, while the average speed was 52km/h.
The council will conduct further consultation with residents before finalising the plans.
