Projects involving vacant land could deliver nearly 7500 new jobs in the next two decades, according to Brimbank council.
Council documents reveal there is a 17 to 23-year supply of vacant industrial land that could be the focus of about 7470 new jobs in manufacturing, transport, logistics and distribution, and wholesale trade.
“The city contains significant industrial areas which benefit from the municipality’s access to important infrastructure,” a report found.
“There are also a number of smaller industrial pockets that are either under-performing or isolated from other services. Opportunity exists to redevelop and refine these areas.”
Council director of city development Stuart Menzies said projections in the Brimbank industrial land strategy, which will guide the future development of industrial land, were based on extensive data.
He said the council sought to attract business expansion and employment through business development strategies, investment attraction and strategic planning.
