Westies on trail of the besties

The best the west can dish up is being celebrated with the launch of a new food award.

Food lovers and bloggers Kenny Weir, of Consider The Sauce, and Lauren Wambach, of Footscray Food Blog, have teamed up to launch The Westies – Dishes of Distinction.

The annual awards will celebrate three dishes deemed to be most representative of the best of western suburbs food.

Ms Wambach said the judges would be looking for dishes that had the most to offer in terms of taste, consistency and pricing, as well as a sense of uniqueness or tradition. “We see The Westies – Dishes of Distinction as a really exciting and enjoyable way of broadening appreciation of the food culture of the western suburbs.”

Mr Weir said the pair were hoping the awards would be seen as a celebration of food in the western suburbs – and the people who create it. “It’s going to be a tough choice, but who better than Lauren and I to make it?”

The 2013 winners will be announced at a combined Footscray Food Blog/Consider The Sauce Spring Picnic at Yarraville Gardens on November 30.

The picnic starts at 11am with The Westies winners announced at noon.
