St Albans: Three men charged over drug discovery in Yarmouth Avenue

Three men have been arrested over drug trafficking after police raided a house filled with mature cannabis plants in St Albans.

Officers arrived at the house in Yarmouth Avenue, about 10.45pm on Thursday to find entire rooms occupied by cannabis plants being grown hydroponically.

A police spokeswoman said that the men tried to run away when they saw officers arrive, but they were arrested in the street.

A 50-year-old St Albans man, a 37-year-old Sunshine North man and a Footscray man, 27, were arrested at the scene and later charged with possession, cultivation and trafficking of a commercial quantity of cannabis.

They have been bailed and are expected to appear in the Sunshine Magistrates Court on November 11.

A crime scene guard stayed at the house overnight, and police will remove the plants and dismantle the hydroponic set up later on Friday, the spokeswoman said.
