Police target high-risk offenders

Victoria Police have announced a manhunt for some of the state’s top high-risk offenders.

Starting in Brimbank and encompassing Broadmeadows, Fawkner, Sunshine, Melton, Footscray, Box Hill, Dandenong and Geelong, the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) will deploy across the state, turning up the heat on offenders who are actively avoiding apprehension or have a history of violent behaviour.

Operation Summoning will also involve local police in targeting offenders who are on bail and have strict conditions and curfews to ensure they are not breaching their terms.

Acting Senior Sergeant Mick Turner said the operation was putting tactical police out into the regions to support local police in dealing with potentially volatile situations.

“CIRT members are trained in tactical policing, and equipped with the skills to deal with dangerous offenders,” Acting Senior Sergeant Turner said.

“Operation Summoning will target the hot spots around the state and assist local police in apprehending their priority criminals.

“We’ll be using strong intelligence to track down these offenders, and frequenting high-risk community locations where recidivist offenders are likely to pass through.”
