A NEW take on a children’s theatre favourite enjoyed its first outing in Sunshine North on Saturday.
Polyglot Theatre unveiled its new version of Muckheap, complete with Auslan sign-language in a show developed with pupils at Furlong Park Primary School for the Deaf.
Assistant principal Marion Treiber said students had been greatly excited by their involvement in the project.
“Polyglot were here for a week with all their props, working with the students to create the show. They loved the workshops and being fully involved in the process. They’re also familiar with the performers, which really adds to their understanding and enjoyment.”
Ms Treiber said the creative and visual arts were vital for deaf students to be able to express themselves.
The revised version of the show was performed simultaneously in English and Auslan to cater for deaf and non-deaf audiences.
After being shown to the public for the first time on Saturday, it will tour other schools.
