THE president of the Keilor Residents and Ratepayers Association says a new document guiding future development will help maintain the village’s character.
Brimbank Council last week adopted a ‘Keilor Village vision document’, which was developed in consultation with residents wanting to maintain the village feel and create an attractive, sustainable community.
Under the plan, new developments must take a simple, uncluttered approach and include a landscape component.
The scale of individual developments will also be restricted, with the plan encouraging single-storey buildings.
The plan restricts the use of large areas of signage. Developments must also include connections to nearby open spaces.
Ratepayers association president Susan Jennison says she’s delighted with the final plan.
“We’ve worked too hard for this, so it’s great it’s finally through,” Mrs Jennison said.
“It ensures the history of the place will not be lost and the neighbourhood character will remain.”
Speaking at last week’s council meeting, chairman Peter Lewinsky commended the hard work of those involved in developing the document.
“I would hope it does form an important document for representing the realistic expectations of the Keilor community,” Mr Lewinsky said.
“It’s a reflection of detailed discussions between council and the community and provides important guidance material for any decisions council makes.”
