YOUNG Vietnamese artists will add plenty of cultural colour to this year’s Brimbank Festival.
The 40-member Australian Vietnamese Talent art, literature and music group works in a range of forms to share the culture with the wider community.
Formed in 2010, the group promotes Vietnamese language and culture among young people and brings families together for parent-child events.
Founder and director Thi Dang says each year the group produces a CD and book of literature and holds two art exhibitions.
“We formed because we found that people born in Australia, of a Vietnamese background, were not always exposed to Vietnamese culture and art,” she said.
“Through the group, members found a real appreciation for the language and traditional Vietnamese art and culture, which renewed young people’s interest in learning the language.”
The group will perform on the Sunshine Plaza stage at 3.15pm this Saturday.
This year’s festival celebrates the city’s cultural diversity with music and dance on three stages.
Visitors will be treated to street theatre and children’s program, lifestyle displays and a ‘super growers’ competition.
Residents can enjoy multicultural food, craft and market stalls, carnival rides, a youth program and ‘Brimbank on Parade’.
