WESTVALE Olympic survived a nerve-racking penalty shootout to eliminate local rivals North Sunshine Eagles at McKechnie Reserve in the second round of the FFV State Knockout Cup on Saturday.
The fireworks came in added time after scores were deadlocked nil-all after 90 minutes.
The Eagles came out from the huddle to score in the first half of extra time before Olympic hit back in the second half to force penalties.
Olympic won the shoot-out 5-4 with goalkeeper Billy Georgakopoulos making a crucial save.
“It was a physical game as it was a derby and players were getting fatigued,” Olympic defender George Koutouleas said.
“It was a good hard-fought win.”
