SUNSHINE is at the centre of a renaissance in Melbourne’s west, according to Planning Minister Matthew Guy.
Launching the $3.2 million Hampshire Square redevelopment last week, Mr Guy said the “fantastic piece” of street-scaping work formed part of a growing urban renewal in the inner west.
“I think it’s safe to say that places such as Sunshine are booming and will only continue to boom,” he said.
“The sun will shine on Sunshine as an activities area long into the future and its best days are indeed well and truly ahead of it.”
After a seven-month construction period, Hampshire Road now has new pedestrian crossings, SmartBus stops, ramps and terraced steps.
Brimbank Council chairman Peter Lewinsky said the Sunshine Rising project had made it much easier for people to get around.
“This work has helped knit together Sunshine and now everybody can safely access the bus stops and safely cross Hampshire Road.”
Mr Lewinsky said the project marked a significant foundation stone in revitalising the town centre.
“Now we have to work doubly hard to actually get people into Hampshire Road to fully appreciate what this area has to offer.”
