EDFL: Big changes to divisions

THE Essendon District Football League has changed its division names to reflect the impending introduction of a third tier of senior competition this year.

A-grade will now be known as Premier Division while the old B-grade will now be known as Division 1.

The changes were announced at the league’s season launch last Wednesday.

After 13 rounds this season, one head-to-head meeting each, Division 1 will split with eight teams retained in the division to contest for a top-four finals series, while the bottom six will be relegated to form Division 2.

Promotion and relegation between Division 1 and Division 2 will not start until 2013, with the premier of the latter replacing the last-placed team in the former.
