ESSENDON District Football League will stage a showpiece game on Anzac Day between Avondale Heights and Aberfeldie at Canning Reserve.
What Essendon and Collingwood do at the MCG through football to acknowledge Anzac Day will be replicated at a suburban level for the Moonee Valley and EDFL community.
One player in the match will be presented the Johnson Parker Anzac Day Medal, for best displaying the qualities of skill, courage, self-sacrifice, teamwork and fair play.
The competing clubs, in conjunction with RSL Victoria, decided to name the medal after Harold Carlyle Parker and Leslie Albert ‘Len’ Johnson, soldiers who died serving their country. Both soldiers were footballers who started in the Essendon district and played at VFL level.
The Weekly’s Teo Pellizzeri caught up with two players who will be involved in the match to talk about the significance of playing on Anzac Day. Check the stories out below.
