KEILOR Thunder was like a bull at a gate, bursting to an unassailable first-half lead and keeping its foot on the throats of the Coburg Giants to register a commanding 29-point win at the Coburg Basketball Stadium in the Victorian Basketball League Big V men’s division 2 on Saturday night.
The Thunder struck hard and early to take a 21-point lead at half-time and was never threatened thereafter, improving its win-loss record to 3-2 ahead of the second game of its double-header on Sunday, played after the Weekly went to press.
Thunder leader Andrew Freeman had a profound impact on the result, scoring 11 points and owning the backboard with with a massive 16 rebounds, including five on the offensive end.
A feature of the Thunder’s 91-62 victory was the spread of contributors – James Wright (17 points), Brent Radoslovic (10 points, six rebounds), Liam Glascott (11 points, five assists), Brad Courts (10 points) and James Webster (10 points).
The Thunder faces a daunting trip to the country on Saturday night where it will meet the undefeated Horsham Hornets at the Horsham Basketball Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Thunder had a tough time of it in the women’s division 1 on Saturday evening, losing 74-52 to Latrobe City.
