ERRINGTON Reserve in St Albans will get a much-needed upgrade under an $18 million master plan for the precinct.
Brimbank Council chairman Peter Lewinsky says the 10-year plan will establish the park as a showpiece and draw people from across Melbourne.
The upgrade will include a new community building, tennis club facilities, an improved playground, multi-use sports area, footpaths and an all-weather pathway around the sports oval.
The plan is open for community comment until June 26.
The council conducted 80 on-site interviews with users of the community centre and the reserve before preparing the document.
Mr Lewinsky said work would occur in stages to ensure minimal disruption to users and residents.
“I had the privilege of chairing the community reference group and it was a terrific and passionate process, which reflects the importance of this project in the area,” he said.
The reserve, which was gifted to the people of St Albans by Alice Errington in 1910, has played an important role in the growth of the suburb.
Heritage gates, bluestone walls and a tin shed are listed in the Brimbank planning scheme as features of heritage significance.
Hard copies of the draft can be viewed at St Albans library, Errington Community Centre, St Albans Connect, and online.
