Put the screws on theft

BRIMBANK residents can avoid the frustration of numberplate theft by using one-way screws, crime prevention officer Electra Wellens says.

Acting Sergeant Wellens (pictured) says numberplate theft is a growing problem, with many criminals using stolen plates to avoid detection for offences such as petrol drive-offs and speeding.

In 2010-11, 927 numberplates were stolen in Brimbank with only 100 recovered.

Residents can get one-way screws at Sunshine and Caroline Springs police stations.
