Hillside girl in hospital after pet dog attack

A TODDLER is in hospital after being attacked by a dog in a home at Hillside yesterday.

The girl, who paramedics believed to be a 3-year-old, suffered upper body and facial wounds, and head injuries, inflicted by her family’s pet dog in the Richie Circuit house at about 1pm.

She was treated on the scene for the injuries and shock, and later taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital, according to Ambulance Victoria spokesman Ray Rowe.

He said the paramedics did not see the dog and could not identify its breed. ”It was locked up before they arrived,” he said.

Mr Rowe said the injuries were not life-threatening and that the child was now in a stable condition.

A police spokeswoman said they had made initial inquiries but ”at this stage the dog had not been seized”.
