ALBANVALE has some work to do to reach the Western Region Football League under-18 division 2 grand final.
The Cobras had a chance to seal their berth when they met Hoppers Crossing in the second semi-final, but they were beaten badly by 66 points at Avalon Airport Oval in Werribee on Saturday.
Daniel Bartolo was the shining light from the wreckage for the Cobras, booting seven of his side’s nine goals for the game, while Jerome Caterino, Aymen Elfakahany and Shadi Qunqar fought hard to no avail.
The Cobras will cash in on their double chance where a preliminary final awaits.
Meanwhile, Altona Vikings are through to their first division 1 grand final after edging Spotswood by 11 points in a see-sawing second semi-final. The Vikings led for most of the afternoon, but the Woodsmen got to within three points midway through the last quarter, before two steadying goals from Vikings game breaker Travis Lunardi settled the score.
The Woodsmen, premiers in four out of the past five seasons, will have to negotiate a tough preliminary final if they are to succeed in their title defence. — Lance Jenkinson
