POLICE officers have shot a knife-wielding man who confronted them outside a
home in St Albans this morning, police say.
The man has been taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with serious injuries
after two officers opened fire on him in Elizabeth Street in St Albans about
11.15am.
A woman has also been taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with serious
injuries that police say she suffered before officers arrived at the home.
The man and woman’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said police were called to the home about 11am
after reports that a woman had been injured.
“Police were confronted by a man allegedly armed with a number of knives and
a number of shots were fired by two members,” the spokeswoman said.
The woman was found inside the home after the man had been shot.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the shooting, however no
further details were available immediately.
“It was like a movie.” That’s how Risto Mladeno described a police shooting
in Melbourne’s north-west.
Mr Mladeno had just arrived to his home in St Albans from work when he saw
several police armed with guns.
He said he had no idea what had happened and the scene scared him.
“This sort of thing has never happened here before,” he said.
“It scared me. It was like a movie. There were police and guns
everywhere.”
Mr Mladeno said the police told him his neighbour had been shot after a
stabbing.
Mr Mladeno was then blocked off while police searched the area for clues.
He sat patiently in his car at the intersection of Emily and Elizabeth
streets.
“It’s OK, I’ve finished work, but I’d still like to go home and get
changed.”
Mr Mladeno said he did not know the victim.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said paramedics treated both patients, who
were in a serious condition.
However she could not provide further details about the man and woman’s
injuries.
