ST Albans Gift organisers have pulled off a major coup with confirmation star international sprinter Joshua Ross will line up on the starters block on January 19.
The fifth installment of the event at Kings Park Reserve promises to be the best attended yet with Ross set to be a major draw card, fresh off winning the prestigious Bay Sheffield Gift in unprecedented fashion last week.
Ross, 31, won the Bay Sheffield off scratch, a feat never achieved in the race’s 125-year history.
The Sydney-born athlete is one of the greats of Australian sprinting, holding a record six national titles over 100 metres and is a two-time Australian Olympian.
Ross’s involvement in the St Albans Gift does not stop there.
In a nice touch that will leave a lasting impression on the local community, the dual Stawell Gift winner plans to hold a clinic for young athletes from the Brimbank Little Athletics Club before racing commences in the evening.
