IN its pre-publicity for Geert Wilders’ visit, the Q Society said the “Australian experiment” of multiculturalism was failing in relation to Islam. “Australians are being misled to believe Islam is just another religion, when it is in fact much more.”
This position is at odds with the state government’s own advice: “We believe Victoria’s strong multicultural policies and programs are working well to diffuse tensions and forge solutions in response to those, from any background, who would seek to undermine the peace and harmony of our community,” a communique said.
