Re: Teachers strike: Rolling stoppages from term two (Weekly online, February 15):
Typically disgraceful behaviour from a trade union. Teachers obviously have no qualms about abandoning their students in the pursuit of the almighty dollar. They already have far better working conditions than everybody else and are paid quite handsomely. Far more than the vast majority of workers. Why couldn’t they protest on one of the days during their 10 weeks’ annual leave?

Re: Outrage over ‘wrong’ school uniform (Weekly, February 5):
This school is in breach of several laws. Parents have a right to acquire a dress code exemption card based on conscientious objections and the right to be the moral educators of their children. The Queensland ombudsman confirmed in 2012 that conscientious objections encompass social, moral, philosophical and political objections. Any state ombudsman will confirm the same if tested. Parents, if you can’t knock some common sense into them, then just use your statutory rights and drop the dress code completely!

TAC ad misses the mark, again
As someone who regularly deals with road trauma victims throughout the western suburbs, especially vulnerable road users such as motorcyclists, I was saddened to recently see that the TAC has decided to re-run a television advertisement from 2009 that was widely condemned by the riding community at the time.
The TAC has had years of correspondence from those who ride and are advocates of safe riding — this ad, ‘The Ride’, misses the mark. It also flies in the face of the recent parliamentary motorcycle safety inquiry that reported the figures used in the ad were inaccurate.
