Mowbray’ second shot at life

TEACHERS at a new Melton school will soon dust off the shelves to educate a new generation of students at the former Mowbray College campus.

Heathdale Christian College principal Reynald Tibben said the Werribee college was aiming to open a campus in Melton in 2014, initially catering for prep to grade 4 pupils. The Mowbray site in Melton has been vacant since last June when the college collapsed with debts of $18 million.

The non-denominational school will cater for pupils living in Melton, Caroline Springs, Gisborne and Bacchus Marsh.

“We’re starting off with prep to grade 4 with the aim of opening a couple of kinder rooms in the future and then a new grade each year so we can grow it one year at a time,” Mr Tibben said. He said there was a considerable amount of work to be done to bring the school grounds back to life as the site was “quite run down”.

Open days will be held throughout March. More details: 9974 4801.
