EDFL: Keilor in big win, but loses round 1 points

AN eight-goal blitz in the final quarter helped Keilor record a 54-point win over Pascoe Vale in the Essendon District Football League Premier division.

However, it will be Keilor’s first win of the season after the club was stripped of the four points it won against Avondale Heights.

An EDFL investigation found the Blues had fielded an ineligible player in the round one clash.

Keilor won that match by 15 points. Keilor’s Jason Williams had not been given the “appropriate approvals” to play by his Victorian Football League club Port Melbourne.

On Saturday, the Blues led by just seven points at three-quarter-time, but blew the game open in the last quarter. They had 15 shots on goal and kept the Panthers to a solitary goal.

Coach Mick McGuane was impressed with his side’s form. “We’ve been reasonably happy all year.

“We’ve played last year’s grand finalists and there were quite clear arguments we could have won both.

“We had the result against Avondale Heights go pear-shaped but the players are doing what we have been asking them to do.

“Today was one of those days that’s conducive to tight footy. It was very windy and quite difficult to score at one end of the ground. The last quarter was testament to our hard work and ability to grind out games.”

In division 1, Taylors Lakes lost to Tullamarine by a point, while in division 2 Keilor Park sacrificed a 38-point three-quarter-time lead to lose by 14 points.

Hillside romped to a 73-point win over East Keilor.
