Skills to reach goals

Finding a well-rounded school that caters to students who want to succeed in the performing arts, sport or other academic industries can be challenging, but Essendon Keilor College aims to provide each student with the skills to achieve in their chosen field.

The multicultural college – with sister schools in Vietnam, Italy and Japan — runs a Vocational Education and Training (VET) Sport and Recreation Program designed to prepare boys for the AFL draft.

And for performing arts students, the annual musical is a great way to learn about the industry. Arts graduates have gone on to study at the Victorian College of the Arts and National Institute of Dramatic Arts, among others.

“90 per cent of our students go on to study at university or TAFE,” principal David Adamson says.

Next year the college will undergo an exciting change. Year 10 students will move to the Essendon campus – previously only VCE – and the junior campuses – Niddrie and East Keilor – will cater solely to year 7 to 9 students.

“The move will mean year 10 students will have access to a wider range of VCE subjects on the larger senior campus. The junior campuses will be smaller so we can get to know each student and their families and provide specialised programs for each year level.”

Tours of both junior campuses will take place in Education Week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9.15am.

Bookings are essential.
