BRIMBANK songwriters and musicians have a new way to have their work seen but not heard.
A category for local lyricists has been added to this year’s Brimbank Writers Awards, with songwriters being encouraged to submit words suited to any musical style or genre.
Categories for English as a second language and children’s writing have also been broadened to include short stories, poetry and biographical pieces.
Other categories include those for adult and teenage short stories, which this year will be judged by western suburbs author John Weldon, and awards for adult and teenage poetry.
More than $3500 in prizes is up for grabs. As part of the annual festival, scribes can also take part in workshops with acclaimed authors.
An awards ceremony will be held on September 16 at Sydenham Neighbourhood House in Taylors Lakes.
Entries close at 5pm on July 12. Details: 9249 4171 or email writersfestival@brimbank.vic.gov.au
