Big V: Four wins on the trot for Thunder

KEILOR Thunder took down the once-feared Southern Peninsula Sharks 60-56 in a Big V basketball women’s division 2 shock at Hillview Stadium on Saturday night.

The Thunder made it four wins on the trot and moved a step closer to a finals berth with their most impressive win of the season. But it wasn’t all plain sailing for the slow-starting Thunder, who trailed by five points at the first break.

They turned up the heat on the defensive end to get back into the game in the second period, before a dominant second half got them across the line.

A feature of the Thunder’s victory was the ability to delegate responsibility with no clear statistical standouts.

Nala Tubb (14) and Jessica Francke (11) were the only double-figure scorers for the Thunder, while Jodi Impey finished with nine points and nine rebounds.

The Thunder will be hot favourites against the one-win Western Port Steelers at  Keilor Basketball Stadium on Sunday.

Meanwhile, it was a night to forget for the Thunder in the men’s division 2, pummelled 96-61 by the Melton Thoroughbreds in a one-sided 1 v 2 clash.

Matthew Dukes played a lone hand for the Thunder, with 22 points and eight rebounds.

The Thunder will entertain struggling Western Port Steelers on Sunday.
