UPDATE: Police have seized $250,000 worth of cannabis plants from a Caroline Springs crop house.
The Chisolm Drive raid occurred about 9am Thursday.
Police found five rooms of cannabis plants and seized 149 plants and 80 seedlings.
Melton’s Inspector Stephen Mutton said no arrests had been made.
“We believe there was five rooms where plants were being grown at different stages, it’s definitely a grow house,” he said.
“No one was home, so investigations are ongoing.”
Inspector Mutton said police would crack down on similar operations.
“We believe there’s a number of crop houses like this in Melton, that will be our focus. One of our concerns is we’ve had a number of these houses catch on fire because they bypass electricity; it’s a common occurrence.
“The electricity usage doesn’t show up on a bill, [but] all the while they’re using a tonne of electricity to grow their crops, making it easier for a fire to begin.”
Inspector Mutton said Thursday’s raid came after an anonymous tip from a resident.
