Regional Rail Link: 6.30 ‘alarm’ riles Albion neighbours

SUNSHINE residents are demanding that Regional Rail Link works near Albion station begin later on weekends because of excessive noise.

A Forrest Street resident said those living in Forrest Street and between Anderson Road and Kororoit Street were becoming increasingly frustrated with 6.30am start times.

Anderson Road has been closed for three weeks as two level-crossings are removed and work begins on a new road-over-rail bridge near Sun Crescent and Forrest Street.

Although the RRL Authority said residents were notified of extended working hours, the man said the early morning starts were disruptive.

“These people don’t have a voice,’’ he said. “They don’t know how to speak English let alone understand what their rights are, but that doesn’t give anybody the right to take advantage of the situation.” The man, a safety consultant in the construction industry, said work should begin at least an hour later.

“There has been no good given reason why work has been allowed to commence at such an early time and even on weekends. My whole house shakes from the noise and vibration, it’s like a war zone.”

An RRL spokesman said extended working hours were unavoidable.

“Extended working hours during this closure were necessary to enable the planned work to be carried out, so as not to cause additional disruption,” he said.

“Local residents were informed that works would be carried out night and day during the closure and [they were] offered relocation for the most disruptive period of work.”
