My Suburb: Susan Jennison, Keilor

KEILOR Historical Society president Susan Jennison is passionate about her community and has a strong interest in
preserving its heritage.

What’s your favourite place to get a coffee and a bite to eat?

I enjoy heading down to Sweet Lulu’s in Keilor Village. I really
appreciate their coffee and location. Great coffee and close to home –
what more could you want?

Where’s your neighbourhood retreat?

To unwind, I like to go for a relaxing walk through Brimbank Park.
It’s a lovely, big park which was created for the western metropolitan
area and my only regret is I don’t get down there often enough.

Where do you go to shop for new threads?

When I do get a chance, I normally hunt for clothes in Niddrie or
the Melbourne CBD. I don’t have a favourite store, but those areas are
always good to begin with.

What would you change in your neighbourhood?

The opening hours of the Keilor Village library. Library
management argues the numbers don’t warrant longer opening hours, but
it’s a catch-22. I believe far more people would use the library if it
was open for longer periods.

What would you never like to see changed?

I hope Keilor Village never loses its character and village
atmosphere. I was pleased the Brimbank City Council recognised this in
the Keilor Village vision document which ensures the area’s character
and history will be preserved.

What change has had the most impact in your neighbourhood?

People who read this and know me are going to smile. In recent
times, noise from Tullamarine air traffic has had a negative impact on
the community. Air traffic noise is really impacting locals between 11pm
and 6am each day.
