Money to improve a key Brimbank intersection is welcome but there
are still major problems on local roads, according to a residents’
group.
While the state government has committed $430,000 to upgrade the
intersection of Boundary Road, Marwen Drive and William Angliss Drive in
Derrimut, Delahey Action Group secretary David Anderson said there were
many other troublespots.
“I welcome any improvement on the intersections along Boundary
Road because of the industrial development in the area and subsequent
need for access to the Western Ring Road,” he said.
“[But] I’d like to know what the government’s intentions are
regarding Taylors Road and Kings Road in Delahey. It’s the greatest
safety hazard and bottleneck along Kings Road as it’s the only major
intersection not signalised.’’

Mr Anderson, who inspected the Delahey intersection with Western
Metropolitan Liberal MP Bernie Finn several months ago, said he was
extremely disappointed VicRoads and the government continued to “ignore
the safety of residents and motorists”.
Mr Finn said he understood VicRoads had developed a proposal to
replace the existing roundabout at the Delahey intersection with traffic
lights.
Safety improvements at the Derrimut intersection would include a
fully controlled right turn on the east and west approaches, a U-turn
ban, better lighting and a skid-resistant overlay.
Mr Finn said there had been 12 crashes at the intersection in the five years to June 2012, one of which resulted in a fatality.
“This intersection has a history of crashes,” he said. “I’m sure
it will be welcome news for drivers who travel these roads regularly.”
A VicRoads spokesman said work would begin later this year.
