STOP THE TUNNEL VISION

■ Denis Napthine appears to want to lock Victoria into two projects costing billions of dollars.

The east-west tunnel, at a cost of $8 billion-plus, will leave very little in the transport budget for any other projects.

There is not a business case for this tunnel, and there needs to be more consulation with local councils.

There is no federal money for the project and dozens of homes and
businesses need to be acquired and bulldozed. Nothing will be done to
allieviate the traffic problems.

The money would be better spent on other projects such as the metro rail tunnel.

Infrastructure Australia has declared this job to be ready,
federal funds are available and this tunnel would expand the rail
network with five new city stations. With the tunnel taking the Sunbury
to Dandenong train out of the city loop, this would free up time to
expand other networks.

EAST-WEST LINK PROTEST (Weekly online)

■ Terry Mulder actually said “rent-a-crowd”? Well,
that’s no problem. Just see whether election votes can be rented. What
an excellent thing for the transport minister to say.

RENT A CROWD VIA WEB

■ Well, Sir Rod Eddington hit the nail on its head. People only have themselves to blame for the installation of the Liberal state government.

ROD FOR YOUR BACK VIA WEB

■ Memo to all governments: It is not your money you
are spending, it is taxpayers that foot the bill. That being the case,
it seems to me that we have a right to know the costs and supposed
benefits, and companies that hide behind the commercial in confidence veil should simply be struck off the list of bidders for government contracts. What a fine democracy we have. Elected dictatorship is far more apt at describing our system of government.

FIREFIGHTER CANCER COMPO ( Weekly, September 3)

■ The Napthine government is bent on building monuments for itself and
not looking after community workers. Have another read of the article
of how Napthine had to escape through the back door to avoid speaking to
ambos.
