Carey Grammar student hits the stage

Carey Grammar student Lucy Kelly is a triple-threat.

The 15-year-old budding actor will star in the Stage Masters musical production of the Disney favourite Camp Rock next month.

Lucy said even though the production keeps her busy, it’s a lot of fun.

“It’s busy but mum is really helpful,” Lucy said.

The year 9 student is performing in the ensemble and loves the chance to indulge in her biggest love – singing.

“I love singing and dancing. I’m more of a singer. I do dancing lessons outside of school but I’ve been singing for way longer.”

The young actor has already starred in previous Stage Masters
productions and
described them as a great experience.

“There was a sign up at school advertising Camp Rock so that’s how I found out about auditioning,” she said.

“I’ve also done You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown last year with
Stage Masters. That was a really fun experience so I decided to audition
and give it a go.”

Lucy said that while she would like to do musicals every year, she is not sure if acting will be her chosen path.

“I’m not really sure what I want to do when I’m older. I really love drama but I also love science.

“I’d really like to keep doing Stage Masters every year because
it’s so much fun. It’d be fun to go for a lead character in the future
but ensemble is really great too.”

Camp Rock: The Musical opens on October 17 at St Martins Youth Arts Centre in South Yarra.
