WRFL div 1 grand final: The curtain raisers

Grand final day started the same as it has the past four years,
with Hoppers Crossing taking out the first premiership cup awarded on
the day.

The Warriors under-18s achieved an amazing four-in-a-row beating St Albans by 87 points in a one-sided affair at Chirnside Park.

Brad Murphy’s team did not have it all their own way, trailing by a
point at quarter-time. But the Warriors soon found their groove to pile
on 16 of the last 19 goals and win convincingly.

Five Warriors players booted multiple goals. Daniel Strnak led the way with four, while Blake Jago was best-on-ground.

For the Saints, Josh White, Kirk Chetcuti and Steven Ryan battled it out till the bitter end.

In the division 1 reserves, Altona claimed back to back flags, defeating Sunshine Kangaroos by 27 points in the season decider.

The Vikings burst out to a 20-point quarter-time lead and maintained a comfortable buffer till the final siren.
