Stallions a win from title joy

This Saturday looms as the biggest day in the history of the Spring Hills Soccer Club.

If the Stallions defeat Lara, they will claim the state league 5 title.

Spring Hills is four points clear at the top of the table and a win will guarantee the club its first piece of state league silverware.

The team’s last loss was more than a month ago and Stallions coach Darren Traynor is rapt with the way his side is charging to the finish line.

“Post that loss against Balmoral we have been terrific,” he said.

“We have really found another gear and have been really aggressive in putting teams away.

“It is funny to say that – because I have actually lost four of my starting 11 players through injury and overseas trips. I have called on guys who have been on the fringe or in the reserves and they have really stepped up.”

The Stallions have taken on Lara twice this season for a draw and a win.

Regardless of Saturday’s result, Spring Hills is in the box seat to be promoted to state league 4 next season, with Traynor confident his side will be able to have an impact at the next level.

The teams placed first and second in state league 5 will be promoted at the end of the season.

The Stallions will take on bottom-of-the-table and winless Sporting Carlton in the final round.
