Old friend has a shiny new look

When an eating venue has been revamped, it’s often like visiting somewhere new but with the safety net of knowing the same reliable team and delicious food are still available. And that’s what has happened at Deer Park Club.

“We invite everyone to come and experience all that Deer Park Club has to offer, including the 200 plus-seat bistro overlooking the manicured bowling green; a two-storey play zone; a new TAB and sports theatre; two large function rooms; weekend entertainment and courtesy buses,” general manager David Thompson says.

“The club is now not just the leading entertainment venue in the western suburbs but the whole of Melbourne.”

The family and community-orientated club has something for everyone, and whether you’re after a game of lawn bowls or looking to join a fishing, golf or pool club there are plenty of ways to meet new friends and enjoy spending time with old ones.

And the kids will stay occupied, with free entertainment from Friday to Sunday nights.

“We have quite a busy functions schedule under way, with Abbasessions in February, a Roy Orbison tribute in April and Col Elliott booked for June,” David says.

“Bookings can be made through the club, but be quick as they’re quite popular.”

Popular times to visit the club include Wednesdays, with $12 parmas and barefoot bowls; Mondays, when kids eat free (conditions apply) and on Sundays, for the three-course carvery for $15.90.

The venue has been a ‘go-to place’ for locals since its establishment in 1957, when it began as the ICI Club, founded by the ICI company (now Orica) as a social hub for its employees. The club’s experienced and knowledgeable team, including David, look forward to sharing the venue’s new fit-out with future visitors.

“I’m incredibly proud and humbled to be leading a great team to ensure the continued growth and success of the venue,” David says.
