Speed limits to be reduced in Sunshine

The speed limit in downtown Sunshine is expected to be dropped by 10km/h an hour in two city streets this week.

Brimbank council has been given VicRoads approval to drop the speed limit from 60km/h to 50km/h on Foundry Road, between Anderson and Hampshire roads, and on Hampshire Road, between Ballarat and Hertford roads.

The council has received no negative feedback after letterboxing affected properties and one letter of support from a Foundry Road business.

Both Foundry and Hampshire roads are major collector roads that carry about 6000 vehicles each day.

A council report found the reduction in speed “has the potential to impact on the residents and traders in the area”.

In recent years, the speed zone in Hampshire Road, south of Hertford Road, was reduced from 60km/h to 40km/h.

Proposals to decrease the speed limit along Harvester Road, between Ballarat and Devonshire roads, were dropped.

Council only requires a memorandum of authorisation from VicRoads to reduce the speed zones. One was granted late last month.
