Ravenhall tip: About 6000 sign petitions against extension

Two petitions objecting to the extension of the Ravenhall landfill have attracted about 6000 signatures.

Kororoit MP Marlene Kairouz told the Weekly about 4000 signatures had been collected for a petition to be tabled in State Parliament.

“Melton City Council has also received approximately 2000 objections, which they believe is the most received on an application,” she said.

About 500 people attended a community meeting on February 26 at Catholic Regional College in Caroline Springs, outraged at Boral’s plans to expand its operations.

“Since the community meeting in late February, the community response has been substantial,” she said.

A Stop The Tip rally will be held at the Melton Civic Centre on Tuesday, April 1 from 6pm.

Melton City Council is expected to vote on the extension that night.
